The federal government has announced Canadian beef producers will now have some duty free access to the European Union market.

Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz and Minister of International Trade Peter Van Loan announced the completion of negotiations this morning.

The arrangement will provide duty-free access to a 20,000-tonne quota for beef exports to the European market. The Canadian Beef Export Federation estimates this new duty-free access could be worth more than $10 million a year.
