Brandon University has recognized a former staff member.

The late Dr. Murray Smith has been recognized with a place on the Brandon University (BU) Faculty of Education Wall of Honour.

Dr. Smith is the first addition to the Wall in more than 10 years.

He taught at BU from 1989 until his retirement in 2001. Prior to that, Dr. Smith worked at several school divisions as well as with the Brandon University Northern Teacher Education Program (BUNTEP) and the Program for the Education of Native Teachers (PENT) at BU.

Dr. Smith helped develop science and math curriculum for Manitoba schools and wrote two science textbooks that were in use in the province. Additionally, he helped to implement the Secondary School Teacher Education Program, which was based on PENT’s format, to train teachers in the southeastern African country of Malawi.

Colleagues, family members, friends and current faculty gathered for a reception at BU on Friday.
