Bruce Evans will be the new Reeve for the Municipality of Grassland.

The veteran politician spent 20 years on council before stepping aside in 2018. Reeve Ruth Mealy announced she wasn’t seeking another term and that set the wheels in motion.

“I had lots of people encourage me to run for another term. When I saw Ruth wasn’t running I thought maybe I should put my name forward and see what happens.”

Evans says the first thing he’ll do is assess things to see where the municipality is at.

“I stepped back and stayed out of it for four years. There’s been a lot of changes with not just council but staff as well. There’s a lot of changes with what’s expected by the provincial government and the province keeps dumping responsibility onto the local councils” said Evans.

Bruce Evans said he had to make the decision whether or not he wanted to commit the time to council because of all the meetings and the time it takes to do the job properly. There are some vacancies on council and Evans says the new council will have to wait until after election day to work towards filling those positions.
