2010 MFW Conference attendees listen to a presentation on Monday.

Rural women from across the province are gathered in Portage for the 2010 Manitoba Farm Women's Conference .

"The conference is important as a meeting place for a lot of women who have common interests, who are interested in having strong rural communities, in learning, in growing as people and in encouraging others to grow as well," explains conference chair Beth Connery. "We've had lots of information given to us on leadership, leadership as women. We're also talking about our communities, how we can strengthen them and things we should be thinking about in the future."

"Getting any group together to talk about rural lifestyles and rural people is an important thing for us to do," says Connery.

Speaker presentations focus on everything from Zumba fitness to the 100 Mile Diet to social networking through sites like Facebook and Twitter.

The conference wraps up Tuesday afternoon.

The 2011 conference will be held in Brandon.
