The Brandon Flight Centre is holding a Fly-in / Drive-in fundraiser this Saturday, August 14th, at their hangar at the Brandon Airport!

Office Administrator for The Brandon Flight School, Jordan McLeod, says all funds raised will go towards their Student Pilot Scholarships.

“This is an event for our club but also just a way to involve the community too, to let them know we’re here - and the funds will go towards our students.”

The flight school provides private pilot license training and currently has about 60 students.  Fifty hours of classroom/fly time and a tuition of close to $15,000 will get you your private pilot’s license.  “If you want to continue on then you can get your commercial pilot’s license which would give you a career in aviation,” shares McLeod.

Two of the Brandon Flight School’s students will receive the scholarship funds raised from Saturday’s event.

“It’s similar to going to school like a university or a college where the funds aren’t always there for the students, so it is nice to have a little extra help,” adds McLeod.

The Brandon Flight Centre is a flight school as well as a maintenance shop for any kind of aircraft needing tune-ups, repair and/or fuel.

McLeod says the pandemic has had its affect on their daily operations, mostly through the reduced flights coming in and out of the Brandon Airport.   “It has slowed down quite a bit in terms of aircraft coming in, especially WestJet, those flights have slowed down.  But things are starting to pick up again as things open up.”

Saturday night’s movie will be projected onto their hangar door at the Brandon Airport from 9 pm to 11:30pm.

Tickets are $10 per person.
