Province announces free family fishing, free provincial park access this weekend

From June 7 through June 9, the Manitoba government is inviting Manitobans to visit a provincial park for free and drop a line in the water without a fishing licence throughout the province.

Anglers can fish without an angling licence provincewide this weekend, except in national parks where a federal licence is still required. All other angling regulations, including possession limits and size restrictions, still apply as outlined in the 2024 Manitoba Anglers’ Guide , available at www.manitobafisheries.com.

Vehicle permits will not be required to visit provincial parks this weekend. However, regular camping fees will still apply at provincial campgrounds.

Park interpreters in Whiteshell Provincial Park will offer guided tours of the Whiteshell Fish Hatchery, where visitors can learn how provincial fisheries staff raise a variety of species, receive an in-depth history of how fish stocking has evolved over the years and view hundreds of thousands of trout in outdoor tanks. Park visitors are also encouraged to check this website for the latest provincial park conditions as there may be temporary closures or advisories. Before setting up a campsite, visitors should check for the latest fire restrictions and remember to only make fires in approved fire pits.

Manitobans are reminded to remain vigilant and do their part to protect the province’s water bodies from aquatic invasive species (AIS). To prevent the spread of AIS, water users are required to clean, drain and dry watercraft and water-related equipment when removing them from a waterbody.
