Food Matters Manitoba has handed out its annual Golden Carrot Awards.

"The Golden Carrot Awards are our annual toast to the behind-the-scenes work that's being done to get good food on Manitoba tables, in schools and community centres," explains Food Matters' Ashlee Espenell. "We know farming and agriculture is an enormous part of our economy so we know that no matter what the scale, all these people need to be recognized."

38 nominees were recognized for their work to promote local food. Award winners this year include the "From Field To Table" supper organizers from Morden, Ted Meseyton,  the Singing Gardener and Grow-It Poet from Portage, and Sharon Taylor of the Manitoba Farm Mentorship Program.

The awards were handed out by Jim Rondeau, Minister of Healthy Living, Youth and Seniors, at a ceremony at the provincial legislature.
