The Winnipeg Goldeyes have signed right-handed pitcher Chad Benefield. Benefield, 22, made his professional debut with the Goldeyes last season. In 23 games, the product of Dallas, Georgia went 1-3 with a 4.30 ERA in 29.1 innings. He was credited with his first professional win in the Goldeyes last game of the 2010 season, a 4-3 victory against the Schaumburg Flyers. Prior to coming to Winnipeg, Benefield toed the rubber for the NCAA Division II University of South Carolina-Aiken Pacers. He led the Pacers with eight saves during the 2010 collegiate season. Benefield is the second player signed by Forney to an American Association contract for the 2011 season. Catcher Luis Alen was the first player signed last week.
