Four students from the Westman Region will by flying to Ottawa at the end of May to participate in the Canada Wide Science Fair at Carleton University, including Grade 7 student from Christian Heritage School, Abereham Moges.

Moges received multiple awards at this week's Western Manitoba Science Fair held at Brandon University on Tuesday, including Best of Show for his research project on Mood Foods. He also received Gold amongst his fellow Grade 7-8 contenders.  He also received the Science of Health Care Award which demonstrates the role of science innovation in health care and pharmacy, as well as the Don Sumner Memorial Award for demonstrating exemplary mathematical skills in his scientific research by recording and analyzing data in a quantitative method.

This young Brandon scientist investigated the impact of nutrient-rich snacks on cognitive performance and productivity using specific foods, such as raspberries, blueberries, walnuts and chips in his study.  He developed his own Cogni Bar which combined the nutrient-rich foods he determined were the best for peak brain performance.  As well, Moges developed his own website showcasing his new nutrition bar and his resesearch!

"This Western Manitoba Science Fair has been a really good opportunity for me, checking out other students' projects, seeing what other students have done," shares Moges.  "I've seen some really cool projects, talking about DNA, AI solving Rubik's cube, bio-luminescence projects, and honestly it's been a really great place here.  It's really nice to be around other scientists at this young age and to maybe get a chance to go to the Canada Wide Science Fair."

Please listen to more with Aberehem Moges below!  I spoke with this young man before he was awarded Best of Show, and the other awards he received Tuesday afternoon.
