The Build A Rink committee formed in May 2022 and continues to work at raising money and awareness of a new arena for Boissevain.

The group’s goal is to raise $2 million in private donations.

Committee member Heather Merckx is pleased with response from the community. “We’re in the early stages and this year we tackled smaller fund raisers and about bringing awareness which I think we did very well. Into the future we’re looking at larger fund raising and reaching bigger goals.”

“Up next, we have the “Jingle and Mingle” social gathering set for this Friday. We’re doing a silent auction and we have some great prizes like Jets hockey tickets with hotel and restaurant, we have a TV and lots of other items. We have a raffle table and we’ve had great support from local businesses with some really nice donations and we’re hearing good things about tickets sales for Friday’s program.”

Heather Merckx says so far, they’ve raised about $15,000.

“We’re hoping in January to set out some goals. We’re still waiting on something before we go ahead with larger scale fund raising; We want to wait to have more details about the rink to share with the community and when we do that, we’ll be able to do some larger scale fund raising,” said Merckx.

The Build A Rink committee plans to tap into both commercial and individual donations to reach their goal.

“I’m very confident we’ll reach our goal because it’s such a great project for our town. Once we have an image of that building it will create so much excitement and we’ll have so many opportunities for our town with the new complex. I definitely think it’s attainable.
