Boissevain's Zoe Hicks and Mitch Olson of Deloraine were recognized by Baseball Manitoba for their outstanding 2023 seasons at the Association's Annual Awards Banquet this past Saturday in Winnipeg.
Hicks was named the Senior Women’s Player of the Year and Olson is the Senior AA Player of the Year.
Hicks hit .455, scored five runs and had two rbi for Team Manitoba at the Women's Invitational Championship in Halifax & Upper Sackville, Nova Scotia in late July.
She also earned a spot on two National teams this summer.
Hicks competed in Thunder Bay at the Women's Baseball World Cup - Group A event and helped Canada to a 4-1 record and a berth in the next round.
She also helped Team Canada to a 4-2 record at the World Cup Softball Qualifier - Group C in Italy.
Hicks was unable to attend the Baseball Manitoba Awards Banquet as she was in Toronto preparing with Canada's softball team before they departed for the Pan Am Games in Santiago, Chile.
Olson batted .489 with nine home runs and 31 rbi for the Deloraine Royals and was named the South West Baseball League's Most Outstanding Player.
His three-run homer helped the Oak River Dodgers win gold at the Westerns.
Olson was also on Team Manitoba’s roster that captured bronze at the Senior Nationals in Red Deer.
The final award of the evening was the announcement of Baseball Manitoba's Region of the Year.
That honour belongs to Oildome.
"We had a good year and some successful teams at Provincials," noted Oildome president Dallas Williamson shortly after the banquet. "Credit to all our organizations for developing our programs and growing the game."
Clayton Dreger asked Mitch Olson, who was the Senior AAA Player of the Year in 2011 & 2013, how it felt to be selected the Senior AA Player of the Year
