Provincial Agriculture Minister Stan Struthers has announced farmers will be able to apply for increased compensation for loss due to wildlife damage.

Beginning in fiscal year 2011-12, compensation will increase from 80 percent to 90 percent, with an increase to 100 percent planned for 2012-13.

Compensation will include damage caused by livestock predators, big game and migratory waterfowl. This means the program covers everything from a bear damaging honey bee colonies to damage caused by geese eating a crop.

Producers will still be expected to take reasonable precautions to prevent damage and attacks from happening.
