The Killarney Curling Club is hosting a special bonspiel the first week in December, to mark 125 years of providing winter recreation for their community!

Club President, Don Chatham, says

"It's an open bonspiel for our 125th and there's a 'stick-spiel' also," says Club President, Don Chatham. "It's just a fun-spiel to celebrate our 125th!"

The curling ice at the Shamrock Centre is in top condition, he adds. "They had a little trouble with the plant right off the bat, but they got that all figured out and so the ice is in really good shape right now!"

Chatham says it's been a bit of a struggle getting their member numbers back after the pandemic, one challenge being the loss of their American friends from just over the border.

"We didn't curl for a couple of years, but we got on the phone and then got about 4 more rinks that we had when we had to quit.  But we lost a lot of our American buddies, as we lost 10 guys who came up from Rolla, (N Dakota) all the time.  So, we're pretty happy we ended up with more rinks, even without those guys."

Some highlights of the league are the afternoon seniors curling program, as well as a stick league, which is also doing quite well.

Chatham encourages teams to get their names on the bonspiel list as soon as possible to join in on the 125th anniversary celebration.  "Just contact me or my son, Cody, and we'll get them signed up!"
