Killarney Minor Ball is ramping up for a new ball season and they've had some exciting new additions to this year's start!

What was once known as the 'Killarney Stars' will now be called the 'Killarney Laker's' to embrace the branding of their senior counterparts!

"We're excited this year! We branded a new logo," shares President, Pam Skeoch. "We're going to be the 'Killarney Lakers' just like our senior ball team!  We ordered new uniforms over the winter.  So, the kids are excited and ready to use those.  We're very thankful we received a large donation of $5,000 from the Killarney Foundation to purchase those new uniforms!"

Indoor practices have started and they're hoping for an early May start out on the ball diamonds with the more than 170 youth participating in this year's ball program.

"We're up about 20 registrations from last year so we're over 170 players, and that's in both baseball and softball," she explains. "So we're very happy with our registration numbers this year!"

Now that practice has started, teams are being organized and the weather is getting warmer, Skeoch says they're on the search for more umpires.  "We're always looking for more umpires! That's a definite challenge for us, especially for the older kids," she adds.

So help with that, they are now offering umpire clinics.

"We are now offering both a baseball and a softball umpire clinic in Killarney," explains Skeoch. "We're hoping that will attract some of the younger kids.  When they umpire 3 games, we offer to pay the registration fee for them," she notes.
