If you're looking for something to do this weekend and want to get more active, you might want to check out the Open House at the Shamrock Centre in Killarney to try your hand at a host of activities, all for free.

"The Municipality of Killarney – Turtle Mountain has been going full force in the ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge.  The goal is to get moving and tracking our activity for the month of June in hopes of becoming “Canada’s Most Active Community” for a chance to win $100,000," shares Killarney Rec Director, April Archambault.

The community has been participating in the 'ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge' over the past few years.  Thus far, Killarney is holding the position of #4 in the province.  They have till the end of June to be in the running for the top prize of $100,000 to be named Canada's top Participating Community!

Archambault says it would be wonderful to be Canada's number one participating community, but really it's about getting together as a community.

"Mostly, the point is for us all to get active and working together," shares Archambault.  "It's been really nice to come together as a community and we've had different businesses in town and different fitness places all working together towards creating lots of activities all month long."

From pickle ball to karate to dance to free use of their fitness centre, anyone can join in the fun, and learn about a new activity that they're interested in - and win prizes throughout the day!

"The Shamrock Centre has coordinated a month full of free activities and ideas on how to get moving and we’ve been encouraging everyone to participate and work together towards a healthier more active lifestyle," she explains. "All community members have to do is download the free ParticipACTION app, create an account using our postal code and start tracking their active minutes! Everything from gardening, golfing, swimming, housework, walking, sports and yard work counts towards our goal!"

"It’s not too late to join as we have more to offer for the remainder of the month. You can create a team with friends or colleagues and compete against other teams in the community or work on your own for a chance to win individual prizes too.  Everything get’s better when we work together as a community, so get moving Killarney!" adds Archambault.
