Summer camps are underway across southwestern Manitoba.

Camp Koinonia is a year-round retreat centre located on the shores of Lake Max in the Turtle Mountain Provincial Park.

The camp offers several week-long sessions throughout the summer.

“Our first group of campers arrived Sunday evening and we’ve had some leadership here for the past number of weeks to get ready for the summer camping season. We’ve been cleaning up and doing some maintenance work as well,” said staff member Elisa Barkman.

Each camp hosts between 50 and 60 campers and Elisa Barkman says numbers look good for the 2024 season.

“Staffing looks great but we’re always open to more volunteers so if people want to come out and help in the kitchen or with maintenance, we’re never going to say no to more people.”

Camps run from Sundays to Friday and the youth can enjoy a variety of activities. “We have two different types of camps. We have the children’s camp with regular activities like archery, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, wall climbing, ziplining and nature instruction, which is fantastic. We also have devotions and a time for campers to hang out together. They also do an out trip where they take off and do some tenting together.

Camp Koinonia also offers an adults with disabilities camp.
