These warm November days may not inspire you to go skating, but CanSkate instructor Megan Svistovski says everyday is a good day to go skating. Svistovski teaches people how to balance on thin edges of steel, and explains how the CanSkate program helps skaters get going.

Svistovski says we all live near a rink, pond, or river here in Manitoba, and notes skating is a great family activity. She shares with us that she grew up at the rink, went into competitive figure skating and loves being a coach. She describes her favourite part of being a CanSkate coach.

Svistovski adds the national program is quite popular, and is available in many communities across southern Manitoba. She points out she is travelling to work with many local instructors during the month of November.

Svistovski encourages all skaters to try a new skill while skating this winter, whether that's turning the other direction, stopping with the other foot, or skating backwards. She explains how we can help beginners out on the ice this season.
