The provincial government is looking to change the application process for development of large livestock operations.

Local Government Minister Ron Lemieux says proposed amendments to the Planning Act would give the government authority to make regulations to set out a process for reviewing applications. He says the amendments will create a more "comprehensive, transparent and inclusive process for the Technical Review Committee when reviewing applications for new or expanded operations involving 300 or more animal units."

The regulations are needed to authorize the Committee to obtain and share information from the applicant.

The new review process would include a comprehensive site assessment, opportunity for public and government departments to review and comment on the site assessment, a summary report that addresses comments raised in the review and local input prior to a conditional-use hearing by a municipal council.
