Five students from Assiniboine Community College are in Marlborough, Massachusetts covering their school’s hockey team.

72 teams are taking part in the ACHA Championship including the two-time defending champion ACC Cougars. The Cougars are chasing a historic accomplishment: becoming the first team in ACHA Women's D2 history to win three consecutive championships.

Katrina Spangler of Souris is a first-year media and communications student and she’s thrilled to have the opportunity to not only travel to the championship but to cover the national championship. “We’re doing radio hits, we’re doing live coverage of the game, highlights and kinds of covering the overall atmosphere of the Cougars at the championship.”

“This is an awesome opportunity and the five of us are working together to get all this stuff out at the end of the day. All of our stuff goes on the ACC Cougar’s You Tube page and our team back in Brandon is also doing a show out of Brandon about stats and general information about the ACHA Championship.”

Spangler would like to get into production work, and she loves live sports and radio. She has one more year to go before she graduates from Assiniboine Community College.

“We brought cameras, lighting kits and tripods. It was quite the haul, but we got it all here,” said Spangler.

Everyone flew down Tuesday and will return home after the final on Monday, if the Cougars qualify, or following a Cougar loss because as Spangler says it’s one and done if you lose.
