It's been a busy year with a lot of changes for the Town of Melita.
Mayor Bob Walker says one of the big things is the Water Services Board decided it wanted to retain control of the water plant which had been operated by the Town for the past year.
He adds the Board planned to proceed with a rural water pipeline after some federal money kicked in, and notes this meant a few changes for the Town.

Walker says it's extremely hard to find good workers as the Town has to compete with wages and benefits packages offered by industries such as the oil pipeline in the region.

Meanwhile, Melita has received a lot of attention over the past year with the establishment of it's banana statue on the outskirts of Town. Walker says plans are in the works in developing the area and adds a class from the University of Calgary has volunteered to do the design work for the park around around it.
