The mayor of Melita says 2021 was a quieter year in his community and he says it’s because of Covid-19.

Bill Holden called it a mixed year for the town. “We tried to do a little bit of work and of course with the amount of construction across the province we just finished up a project that brings more water to the north end of town. We didn’t have a lot going on.”

Some construction projects held off and Holden thinks the price of lumber was a factor in those decisions.

“We’ve got a couple of new businesses getting ready to open up and we wish them well. They are different businesses from what we normally have so I ho[pe they take off and have some success.”

2022 is an election year for municipal officials and Bill Holden isn’t sure what lies ahead for his political future. “I really haven’t decided but I know there are a few things I ‘d like to see completed in town.”

“I’ve been talking with a lot of other councillors and mayors and reeves and a number fo them aren’t sure what they’ll do in the fall of 2022.”
