Minto will be celebrating 125 years of existence in late July and organizers have lined up numerous events throughout the last weekend of the month.

The weekend celebration is set for July 28,29 and 30th.

Don Joye is part of the organizing committee, and he says things are coming along nicely but they still have some work to get done before late July. “We’re holding it in conjunction with the Minto Ball Tournament so most things will be on the Saturday.”

“We’ll have a supper, and a street dance and tickets are up for sale, and we also have fireworks booked for Saturday night.”

Friday night will include a bonfire behind the rink and they’ll have a pancake breakfast on Sunday. A car show is another feature of the weekend celebration. A time capsule will be opened up on Friday night at 6:00 pm.

“We look forward to seeing lots of people and hope the weather co-operates.”

“Minto is doing well and we have a strong group of volunteers and a lot of young people and families. Minto is holding it’s own and I know the proximity to Boissevain and Brandon can present challenges, but it also is a good thing because a lot of people live and work in Boissevain and Brandon and live here in Minto. Our school has strong numbers, and our new day care is doing great. The rink is active, and we have lots of young people interested in our community and we couldn’t do it without them,” said Don Joye.
