RCMP have released more details after a police vehicle was involved in an accident on Saturday south of Brandon on Highway #10.

On January 22, around 1:35 pm, a RCMP officer was travelling northbound in a marked police vehicle on Highway 10, between Road 50 North and Road 49 North in the RM of Cornwallis.

Police report that visibility was compromised due to swirling snow in the area. The initial investigation has determined that the police vehicle and a southbound semi-trailer were coming at each other head on and when both drivers became aware of the oncoming vehicle, they took evasive action, narrowly avoiding a head-on collision. However, they did collide with each other, causing both vehicles to end up in the ditch.

It's undetermined which lane they were in at the time of the collision. Each vehicle had the driver as the only occupant, and both drivers were physically uninjured.

A RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has been notified and is monitoring the investigation.
