RCMP think speed may have been a factor in an accident involving one of their officers on Saturday morning.

On August 6, at approximately 9:15 am, a Neepawa RCMP officer was on patrol in a marked police vehicle at the intersection of Highway 16 and Highway 10 near Minnedosa. The police vehicle was travelling westbound on Highway 16 and slowing down at the approach to the stop sign at Highway 16 and Highway 10 when it was struck by a SUV.

Initial investigation has determined that a SUV northbound on Highway 10 was taking the yield east onto Highway 16 and took the turn too fast, crossing the divided line and striking the police vehicle.

The 16-year-old female driver from Brandon and the RCMP officer both received non-life threatening injuries and were transported to hospital. Both have since been released.

A RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist and the RCMP Criminal Collision Investigative Team are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
