The hiring has been completed for a new principal and vice principal at Killarney School.

Long time Principal Terry Beazley announced earlier this year he would be retiring at the end of the school year and that prompted the Turtle Mountain School Division to work at filling the position.

Superintendent Grant Wiesner says they have to look very far to find teaches to fill the positions.

“Erica Hilhorst will be starting as Killarney School Principal this fall. She has been Vice Principal for the past couple of years. She was also a principal at Wellwood Colony for eight years so we’re excited about her transitioning to her new role.”

The school in Killarney will also have a new vice principal this fall.

“We’ve hired Sherri Haney to take on the vice principal's job. She has been a school administrator on two of our colony schools for 13 years.”

Turtle Mountain School trustees also approved the hiring of a new staff person to work at the division office.

“We’ve hired Lisa Blizhavn to take on the role of assistant superintendent of student services and she’ll start that job August 1st. She has been teaching since 2000 and has a lot of experience with student services” said Grant Wiesner.

Blixhavn is currently a resource teacher at Killarney School and works with students in Grades 7-12.

“We've had two retired resource teachers filling in on an interim basis and they’ll officially retire at the end of June.”
