By the end of July, a new daycare is expected to open in Melita.

The 74-space early learning centre was built thanks to a $4 million grant from the province.

Melita’s EDO Eric Forster says the town also chipped in providing two acres of land to build the new facility. “We initially applied for daycare with 48 spaces, but the province came back approving 74 spaces which are badly needed in the area.”

It’s anticipated Melita’s new early Learning Centre will open sometime over the next few weeks.

“I know we had a waiting list so there isn't any worry about being able to fill all the childcare spaces. Across the country there’s a shortage of spaces so it was something that was badly needed in the community.”

Forster says the larger daycare also means more jobs for the community. "There's a 100 per cent jump in staffing and I know they’ve been working hard to get new people in place to fill those positions.”

Melita’s new early learning centre is located next to Melita School.
