The provincial budget came down last week and Turtle Mountain MLA Doyle Piwniuk said it does a lot to improve the province.

Piwniuk is also Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, and he points out a number of roads will be upgraded in 2023 including the completion of Highway #23. “For sure that project will be done this year because it actually should have been done last year.”

“That’s one of the challenges we have is making sure that the contractors get the job done. We also had weather challenges for definitely we will be finishing that portion of Highway 23.”

Work will also take place on portions of Highways #3 and #5.

“We’re doing work on No. 3 between Crystal City and Pilot Mound. That will be reconstructed on that curve and then we’ll put turning lanes into those communities and a nicer highway between the two communities,” said Piwniuk.

He points out that is one of the fastest growing areas in his constituency.

Work is also schedule along Highway #5.

“We’re starting at Carberry and working our way down towards Highway #2. It’ll be done over the next four or five years and will eventually end at Cartwright. It’s going to be an R-TAC highway so there aren’t any weight restrictions much like Highway #10.”
