The organizing committee is spurring into action to put the final touches on the town of Carwright's Ponderosa Days, taking place this August long weekend.  It's no wonder that Ponderosa Days is an event that brands the community as a place to be August 4-6th!

Economic Development Officer for the Municipality of Cartwright-Roblin, April Archambault, says they've got a jam-packed weekend lined up for their annual event.

"We're gearing up for a whole lot of things happening that weekend, and there will be three days of activities for all ages," explains Archambault.

Leading the event is a group of dedicated volunteers, she says.  "It's put together by a group of people who are passionate about keeping it going and certainly on behalf of the CDC we see it as a very important event for the community, so we're involved that way.  The municipality is a big part of contributing to the event as well, but mostly it's a volunteer-run event, which is great!"

Friday's events include a farmers' market, hayrides, and pie auction, not to forget the BEDlam races, and then finishing up Day 1 with the fireworks display.

Saturday starts off with a pancake breakfast and townwide garage sales.  "For anyone local who wants to display their art or quilting, the Quilt & Art Show will be open for viewing," she notes.  Saturday's parade takes place at 11 am. and a hotdog lunch hosted by Senior Services is available for the hungry!  Water polo on Broadway with the local fire department promises to be fun (and soggy) for everyone. A steak supper ends Day 2 at Ponderosa Days!

All are welcome to the Sunday morning church service.  New this year is a car and bike show.  For food and live entertainment, you can giddy-up over to the food vendors onsite, live music and kids' activities through the day.  History buffs will enjoy learning more about the community at the Badger Creek Museum, which will be open both Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1 to 4. (Don't forget to clean off your boots at the door and tip your hat to the receptionist!)

Archambault says a few highlights include Friday evening's BEDlam Races where teams compete against each other pushing beds down the street, and Belgian Bowling on Sunday noon at Waldie Field has become a favorite event as well. "This is the big event of the day and it's quite the thing," she shares. "I think they already have around 20 teams registered to participate in that and again, there are prizes involved and it's lots of fun!"

For those wanting to try their hand at bull riding, you can don on your imaginary chaps and climb on the back of mechanical bull, much to the delight of spectators, to be sure!  And gladiator jousting is not for the faint of heart but is sure to bring even more laughs to participants and spectators!

Kids activities throughout the entire weekend includes a petting zoo, bouncy castles, face painting and even cotton candy!

"The majority of these events are free so it's great to bring the whole family and your friends to, and just have a great time," adds Archambault,

And if you're thinking of taking in the whole weekend but don't live near Cartwright you can park your chuckwagon, tent or camper at the newly expanded campground!
