Jon Cara scored 1:59 into overtime to lift the Southeast Prairie Thunder past the Ile des Chenes North Stars 2-1 on Sunday in Morris. Nick Fuher also scored for the Prairie Thunder who were playing their opener of the eight-game round robin with the North Stars and Manitoba Lightning to determine the finalists for the best-of-seven Hockey Manitoba Senior "AAA" Hockey championship. Mark Kolesar had the lone goal for Ile des Chenes. He intercepted a clearing attempt by Southeast goaltender Kevin Armstrong and buried the puck into the vacant Prairie Thunder net with just 18.7 seconds remaining in the third period.

Southeast and the Manitoba Lightning are both 1-0 while the North Stars are 0-2. Ile des Chenes is affiliated with the Neepawa Farmers of the Tiger Hills Hockey League. The Prairie Thunder are affiliated with the Steinbach Huskies of the Carillon Senior Hockey League while the Lightning are affiliated with the Springfield 98's of the Manitoba East Hockey League.
