Morning Show Co-Host Chris Sumner is a BIG fan of dinosaurs, and was known to act like a Tyrannosaurus Rex or Velociraptor in his younger days stomping around the house roraring at the top of his lungs. So he was very excited about Tuesday's guest, Winnipegger and author Larry Vertraete, who has written Dinosaurs of the Deep: Discover Prehistoric Marine Life.

Larry partnered with the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre (CFDC) in Morden for the project. The CFDC houses a wide variety of prehistoric sea-life including Bruce the Mosasaur, the largest mosasaur on display in the world.

The book focuses on marine reptiles, fish and other organisms that used swim right here in Southern Manitoba in the Western Interior Seaway which covered much of the province millions of years ago.

The book is more than just the facts and figures of these ancient organisms, Dinosaurs of the Deep is illustrated by world renowned paleoartist Julius Csotonyi.

Southern Manitoba is a hotbed of marine reptile fossil excavation and research activity because of the CFDC, and that allowed Larry to put a spotlight on our province.

Dinosaurs of the Deep: Prehistoric Marine Life will be officially launched tonight (June 28th) during a special panel discussion at 7pm at McNally Robinson Booksellers in Winnipeg. The panel will also feature Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre Executive Director Peter Cantelon and the CFDC's field and collection manager Victoria Markstrom.
