This spring was a hard one on area roads in Western Manitoba.

The Municipality of Grassland was no exception. Reeve Ruth Mealy said crews were busy doing repairs because of the excess moisture.

“This was a record breaking amount of snowfall and rain in the spring. I was thinking what were we doing wrong with our roads. Our crews had a really tough time keeping up all winter and spring. I spoke with surrounding municipalities and they said the same thing.”

Mealy adds crews have worked hard and things are back to normal.

“Our crews are now doing regular work like graveling but the late spring not only delayed farmers but it was the same for our crews. They also had to deal with some overland flooding and collapsed culverts and things like that.”

Reeve Ruth Mealy praised the public works crew for their hard work during a difficult winter and spring.
