Russia erased a 3-0 deficit by scoring five unanswered third period goals and stunned Canada 5-3 in the gold medal game of the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championship in Buffalo. Artemi Panarin scored twice and Yevgeni Kuznetsov had three assists for the Russians who won gold for the first time since beating Canada in 2003 in Halifax.

Ryan Ellis and Carter Ashton scored in the first period for the Canadians and Brayden Schenn, the tournament's most valuable player, got one in the second even though he had been playing with a separated right shoulder since the quarter-finals. The Brandon Wheat Kings forward had a goal and set up another to pass Wayne Gretzky and Eric Lindros and tie the team record for points in one world junior of 18 set in 1977 by Dale McCourt.

It's the second year in a row Canada settled for the silver medal. The Canadians lost 6-5 in overtime to the United States in 2010 in Saskatoon. The 2012 World Junior Hockey Championship will be held in Calgary & Edmonton.
