They've had 365 days to prepare. One year to put together a game plan. The call went out to volunteers and billets and that call was answered. The sixteen teams who qualified will arrive for practice on Tuesday and then the host committee will raise the curtain on the 2011 Provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts on Wednesday in Altona.

 

 

 

 

Cathy Overton-Clapham of the Fort Rouge Curling Club in Winnipeg is the number one seed. Defending champion Jill Thurston of the Granite Curling Club in Winnipeg is the second seed while Chelsea Carey of Morden is seeded third. Rounding out the top eight are Janet Harvey of Assiniboine Memorial, Kim Link of East St. Paul, Kerri Einarson of Fort Rouge, Lisa Blixhavn of Brandon and Joelle Brown of Fort Rouge.

 

  

 

CJRB Sports Director Clayton Dreger asked Altona host committee co-chair Wendy Friesen if she's suprised that one year has gone by so quickly since they were awarded the 2011 Provincial Scotties last January.

 

 

 

 

 

Rounding out the field of 16 are Kelly Wiwcharuk of Snow Lake, Bex Lumax of Swan River, Tina Kozak of Brookdale, Betty Buurma of Carberry, Deb McCreanor of La Salle, Karen Rosser of Springfield along with Brette Richards and Michelle Montford of Assiniboine Memorial.

 

 

 

 

The semifinal and final will be played on Sunday and the winner will join four-time Canadian champion Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg at the 2011 Scotties Tournament of Hearts next month in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
