A jet car powered by canola grown on the prairies will likely be featured at one of the world's premier car shows this year.

Prairie Gold is owned by Kevin and Gwen Therres of Prairieland Motorsports. The 7500 horsepower car can reach speeds of up to 254 miles per hour in a quarter mile, running on canola-based biodiesel.

Kevin says they've been invited to bring the car to the renowned SEMA show in Las Vegas.

"We were just at the PRI (Performance Racing Industry) show in Orlando. They came to us at PRI and asked us if we wanted to be featured in the SEMA show in Las Vegas," he says. "For a lot of people in the car world, the SEMA show is the ultimate show to have a car come to. Incredible. Here we are from Humboldt, Saskatchewan and we're being invited to that show. We're just ecstatic."

The car is sponsored by the Canadian Canola Growers Association.

"We get to talk to farmers about canola and what's happening with it. A lot of them don't realize how important the production of food is, as well as now fuel. With this car, they have a car they can say they're involved with," he says.
