Team West had to settle for sixth place at the 2011 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge after dropping a 2-1 decision to Team Atlantic on Monday night in Portage la Prairie. Winnipeg's Brendan Leipsic scored the lone goal for Team West who outshot Team Atlantic 35-19. Team West goaltender Chris Driedger of Winnipeg stopped 17 shots. Taylor Burke and Devon Oliver-Dares did the goal scoring for Team Atlantic who beat Team West 4-2 in the seventh place game in 2010 in Timmons, Ontario.

 

 

 

CFRY's Jeff Dyck asked Team West defenceman and Killarney native Reid Gow to comment on their 2-1 loss to Team Atlantic.

 

 

 

 

Ontario and the United States will meet in the gold medal game tonight at MTS Centre in Winnipeg. Both teams won in overtime on Monday. Sean Monahan scored 1:52 into the extra frame as Ontario shaded Quebec 2-1. Nicolas Kerdiles scored 7:24 into overtime to lift the Americans past Team Pacific 6-5.

 

 

Team Atlantic celebrates its 5th place finish at the 2011 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge
