Souris School will be seeing 34 students cross the threshold from being Grade 12 students to stepping into the world of job markets, post-secondary education, travels and beginning their own path in the big, wide world of adulthood this week Friday!

Belinda West is the Career Guidance Assistant and Secretary for Souris School.  West says this group of students will be following a diverse array of career paths.

"I meet with them many times throughout high school, listen to what they want to do and then make sure they've got the credits they need for their career path at this point," explains West. "But also, for those students who don't really know what they want to do, I try and make sure they're taking a broad range of courses so if in the future they figure out what they want, they've got a transcript that can help them in the future too."

Nineteen of the 34 students are continuing in post-secondary education.

Further training includes studying to be aestheticians, hairdressing, business admin, agri-business, science degree, education instructor, engineering and medical radiological technology as well as training in a variety of trades courses.

West has been employed with the Southwest Horizon School Division for 13 years, working in Hartney School and then in Souris School.  She has watched these students grow in so many different ways, maturing from middle school students into young adults, and helped to direct them in their career paths.

Please listen to more with Belinda West below as she shares her wishes to the graduates, and honestly, it's good advice for all of us!

The Souris School Graduation Ceremony will be held at 1:00 at the Souris-Glenwood Community Complex this Friday, June 21.
