Snow and rain are expected to hit Western Manitoba Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and Souris Glenwood Mayor Duane Davison doesn’t think it will have a major impact on his community.

Weather forecasters are calling for up to 40 centimetres of snow in parts of Western Manitoba.

Davison says the latest flood forecast for the Souris River gave a zero per cent chance of flooding and he’s confident the river isn’t going to be a problem despite this week’s added moisture levels.

“I know it can be an ever-changing situation but when the flood forecasters give a zero per cent chance of flooding, we’re happy about that. We have some snow this week but with the melting the way it’s gone with a couple of days with high temps and other than that it has cooled down and it gets below freezing at night so from our perspective everything looks fine this year.”

Snow and a mix of snow and rain is expected to impact the Westman region until late Friday afternoon or even early Friday evening.

Duane Davison says municipal workers will be busy this spring and summer. “We’ve got a few things on tap. There’s some bridge work being done through DFA and that’s our major work for our municipality. As for the crews themselves they’ve cleaning up the spring melt and then getting down to road maintenance.”

“We’ve got a bridge project going at the golf course right now that’s going to be completed. Then there’s a bridge in the rural area that washed out last summer in that quick six inch down pour and it’s going to be fixed up shortly.”
