Jace Freeman of Virden has a 3-0 record and will play his final round robin game on the 11 a.m. draw against Aaron Van Ryssel of Springfield at the 2023 Provincial Junior Men's Curling Championships in Portage. Hunter Dundas of Brandon outscored Jonathan Kostna of Pembina 10-8 last night and finished with a 2-2 record. Tansy Terrick of the Heather Curling Club defeated Katy Lukowich of the Granite 9-4 in the A event qualifier and advanced to the Page Playoff that begins at 8 p.m. Lukowich will meet Grace Beaudry of St. Vital in the B event qualifier at 11a.m.


Logan Gudnason had a goal and two assists as the Killarney/Wawanesa Raidersdowned the Neepawa Tigers 7-3 at the Yellowhead Centre in the lone Westman High School Hockey League game Thursday night. Landon Lockhart, Neilan Slater, Sam Melnychuck, Josh Archambault, Carter Bartley and Kyle O'Connor also scored for the Raiders. Brody Pollock, Jory Kulbacki and Tarek Lapointe replied for the Tigers. 


Kyle Connor had the lone goal for the Winnipeg Jets in their 4-1 loss to Toronto. Auston Matthews had a pair of goals for the Maple Leafs. The Jets are 0-2 on their five-game road trip with continues Saturday against the Ottawa Senators. Winnipeg goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has been selected by the fans to participate in the 2023 NHL All-Star game. Hellebuyck joins Jets defenceman Josh Morrissey at the 2023 NHL All-Star Weekend, which is being hosted by the Florida Panthers at FLA Live Arena on February 3rd & 4th. 


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed Canadian fullback Mike Miller on a one-year contract extension. He was scheduled to become a free agent in February. The Riverview, New Brunswick native returns to the Blue Bombers for a sixth season after joining the team as a free agent in 2017. Miller is one of the greatest special teams players in Canadian Football League history; he is the CFL’s all-time leader in special teams tackles with 226, having taken over top spot in that category during the 2021 season.


The Minnesota Vikings fired defensive coordinator Ed Donatell. The Vikings ranked second worst in yards allowed in the NFL and fourth worst in points allowed during the regular season. The Minnesota defense gave up 431 yards and 31 points to the New York Giants in their wildcard round loss last week.
