Baseball Manitoba's Provincial AA championships take place this weekend. Wawanesa is competing at the 11U championship in Winnipeg; Virden is at the 13U championship in Morden; Boissevain and Reston are at the 15U championship in Hamiota and Boissevain is at the 18U championship in Brandon. The Southwest Baseball League All-Stars will be competing at the Provincial Senior AA All-Stars Championship in Morden. Softball Manitoba Provincial Championships on this weekend include the U15 A in Winkler; the U17 AAA in Friedensfeld and the U19 AAA in Portage.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes rallied from an early 7-0 deficit and beat the Gary SouthShore RailCats 11-9 at Shaw Park.  Reggie Pruitt Jr.,  Max Murphy, Raul Navarro and Logan Hill all homered in the Goldeyes' seven-run third inning. Hill and Murphy both finished the night with two homers.


Grady Chuback of St. Charles and defending champion Braxton Kuntz of Breezy Bend share the lead heading into the final round of the Provincial Junior Men's Golf Championship at the St. Charles Country Club in Winnipeg. Both are five-under par 139 through 36 holes. Scott Miner of Brandon was five-over par 77 yesterday and is in a tie for 11th place at 155. Spence Mott of Shilo was 79 and is at 162. Addison Kartusch of St. Charles leads Crystal Zamzow of Swan River by five shots heading into the final round of the Provincial Junior Women's Championship which is also at St. Charles. Cala Korman of Killarney was 81 Thursday and is nine shots back. 


Team Manitoba will play in the fifth place game at the 2022 Football Canada Cup Sunday in Kelowna. Winnipeg's Miles Blatherwick threw a pair of touchdown passes including a 90-yarder to Steinbach's Eric Martens as Manitoba defeated Nova Scotia 28-10 Thursday afternoon. Team Manitoba will face British Columbia in the fifth place game.


The last two undefeated teams in the CFL meet tonight at IG Field as the 5-0 Winnipeg Blue Bombers take on the 4-0 Calgary Stampeders. The Blue Bombers have activated receiver Carlton Agudosi. He’ll replace Brendan O’Leary-Orange in the starting lineup. O'Leary-Orange was placed on the six-game injured list on Wednesday.


The Winnipeg Jets have agreed to terms with forward Alex Limoges on a one-year, entry-level contract with an average annual value in the NHL of $780,000. Limoges, 24, played 62 games for the AHL’s San Diego Gulls in 2021-22 and recorded 40 points (23G, 17A) and 13 penalty minutes. The Jets also signed defenceman Kyle Capobianco to a two-year contract with an average annual value in the NHL of $762,500. Capobianco, 24, collected nine points (2G, 7A) in 45 games with the Arizona Coyotes last season. He’s played his entire career with the Coyotes organization, tallying 10 points (3G, 7A) in 59 games with Arizona and 112 points (21G, 91A) in 155 games with the AHL’s Tucson Roadrunners.
