The Winnipeg Blue Bombers suffered their first loss of the 2023 CFL season Thursday night at IG Field. Vernon Adams Jr. threw touchdown passes to Alexander Hollins and Justin McInnis as the B.C. Lions defeated Winnipeg 30-6. The Lions improved to 3-0. The Blue Bombers, who scored 87 points in wins over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Saskatchewan Roughriders, were held to just two Sergio Castillo field goals and fell to 2-1. The Lions led 17-6 at halftime and the B.C. defense shutout the Bombers the rest of the way. Winnipeg quarterback Zach Collaros started his 100th career game in the CFL and threw for just 179 yards and was sacked seven times. The Blue Bombers were also penalized 11 times. It's Winnipeg's first home loss to a West Division rival since 2018. The Bombers next game is July 1st in Montreal against the Alouettes. 


Derek McGregor and Will Lehnert drove in two runs each as the Wawanesa Brewers shaded the Elkhorn Expos 6-5 in the lone South West Baseball League game. Colby Walker had two rbi for the Expos. 


The Winnipeg Goldeyes dropped a 6-5 decision to Lincoln. The Saltdogs, who swept the three-game series at Shaw Park, erased a 4-0 deficit with four runs in the top of the fourth and tacked on two more in the seventh. Max Murphy had three hits and drove in four runs for the Fish who are 2-9 since sweeping the Chicago Dogs two weeks ago. 


James Patrick, who guided the Winnipeg Ice to the Western Hockey League final this past season, will not accompany the Eastern Conference champions when the franchise relocates to Wenatchee, Washington for the 2023-24 season. The Winnipeg native had a 166-49-8 record with the Ice over four years.
