It’s day two of the Provincial Junior Varsity Volleyball Championships. At the A/AA girls championship in Russell...Virden beat Hamiota and lost to Major Pratt. The Bears will play their final round robin game against Warren. At the AAA girls championship in Altona...the Neelin Spartans beat Linden Christian and will play their final two round robin games against Niverville and the host Miller Aces. At the AAA boys championship in Winkler….Neelin will meet either Steinbach Christian or Linden Christian in the quarterfinals. The AAAA championships are in Brandon. Vincent Massey girls lost to Sturgeon Heights, St. Mary’s and Kelvin. The Vikings will face the Dakota Lancers and that winner will advance to the quarterfinals. Massey boys beat Dakota, St. Paul’s and Oak Park and will face Miles Macdonell with that winner advancing to the quarterfinals. At the AAAA varsity championships in Winnipeg...Vincent Massey boys lost to River East in the round of 16. Massey girls will face Niverville in the quarterfinals on Saturday.


The Deloraine/Hartney Colts and Dauphin Clippers were winners in the Westman High School Hockey League Thursday night. Grayson Drummond scored in overtime to lift Colts past the Sandy Bay Badgers 5-4. William Miner had two goals and an assist as the Clippers downed the Minnedosa/Erickson Chancellors 6-2.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension with offensive lineman Pat Neufeld. The Regina native returns to the Bombers for what will be his 12th CFL season and ninth with Winnipeg. Neufeld is coming off his second consecutive all-star season, having been named to the both the West Division and CFL All-Star teams in 2021 and 2022.


Manitoba champions Zachary Wasylik finished the round robin with a 5-0 record and Lisa Birchard was 4-1 at the 2022 Everest Curling Club Championships at the Ice Palace in the West Edmonton Mall. Both teams will play in the quarterfinals today. Wasylik will meet Ron Schmidt of BC and Birchard will take on Chrissy Cadorin of Ontario.
