The Winnipeg Blue Bombers play their final game of the regular season schedule tonight against the Calgary Stampeders at McMahon Stadium. The Bombers (13-4), who have clinched first place in the CFL West and will face either the Stampeders or B.C. Lions in the division final in just over two weeks, left a number of starters at home. Defensive linemen Willie Jefferson and Jackson Jeffcoat, linebackers Adam Bighill and Kyrie Wilson, defensive backs Winston Rose and Brandon Alexander, offensive lineman Stanley Bryant and receiver Nic Demski did not make the trip to Calgary. Dru Brown will get the start at quarterback. Zach Collaros is listed as third on the depth chart.


Brett Hyland scored twice and Roger McQueen had a goal and an assist in the Brandon Wheat Kings 4-3 victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors at Westoba Place. Nate Danielson also scored for the Wheat Kings. Brandon netminder Connor Bjarnason made 35 saves. 


The Winnipeg Jets are riding a three-game win streak. Michigan native Connor Hellebuyck stopped 35 shots including all 19 he faced in the third period as Winnipeg defeated the Red Wings 4-1 in Detroit. Mason Appleton, Nino Niederreiter, Kyle Connor and Nikolaj Ehlers with his first of the season did the goal scoring for the Jets (4-3) who meet the Canadiens in Montreal on Saturday.


Canadian boxer Tammara Thibeault has qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris by advancing to a gold-medal bout at the Pan Am Games. The 26-year-old from Shawinigan, Quebec defeated Vanessa Ortiz of Mexico in the women's 75-kilogram semifinal in Santiago, Chile. Thibeault won a world title in 2022. She reached the quarterfinal round of the Tokyo Games in 2020. Canadian athletes have won 83 medals in Santiago, Chile including 29 gold, 24 silver and 30 bronze.
