Aaron Cockerill of Teulon finished in a tie for third place at the DP World Tour’s ISPS Handa Championship in Tarragona, Spain. Cockerill fired a final round three-under par 67 and was two shots back of Pablo Larrazabal. Cockerill’s third place finish earned the 2010 Manitoba Junior champion just over $143,000 and moved him to 25th on the DP World Tour Rankings.

The Virden Oil Capitals face the Steinbach Pistons tonight at Tundra Oil & Gas Place. The Pistons, who defeated the Oil Capitals 8-2 on Saturday in Steinbach, lead the best-of-seven semifinal three games to two. The series winner will meet the Dauphin Kings in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League final.

Team Canada picked up its first win at the 2022 World U18 Hockey Championship Sunday in Landshut, Germany. Connor Bedard scored three times and Nolan Lalonde made 33 saves as Canada downed the host team 8-3. Grayden Siepmann, David Goyette, Brayden Schuurman, Matthew Wood and Kalem Parker also scored for the Canadians who have a 1-1 record and will play their final preliminary round game Tuesday against the Czech Republic.

Connor Hellebuyck made 30 saves as the Winnipeg Jets opened their season ending four-game homestand with a 4-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche. It was Hellebuyck’s 200th career NHL win. Adam Lowry, Blake Wheeler, Nikolaj Ehlers and Kyle Connor with his team leading 45th did the goal scoring for the Jets. Lowry, Wheeler and Connor scored in a 3:21 span midway through the third period after J.T. Compter had given the Avalanche 1-0 lead five minutes into the final frame.

C.J. Suess had two goals and an assist as the Manitoba Moose defeated the Admirals 6-2 in Milwaukee. Leon Gawanke, Ville Heinola, Evan Polei and David Gustafsson also scored for the Moose who received a 25-save performance from Evan Cormier.

Jocelyn Peterman & Brett Gallant have a 3-0 record at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Geneva. Sherry Anderson is 1-1 and Wade White is 3-0 at the World Senior Curling Championships which are also in Switzerland.
