The Southwest Cougars dropped a 4-1 decision to the Winnipeg Thrashers Sunday at the Gateway Arena. Regan Anderson scored his 20th goal of the season for the Cougars who trail the defending Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League champion Winnipeg Wild by three points in the race for second place. Southwest has five games left while the Wild, who beat the Yellowhead Chiefs 4-1 on Sunday, have four. 


Carter Dittmer scored four times as the Vincent Massey Vikings downed the defending Westman High School Hockey League champion Swan Valley Tigers 7-5. Boston Karlson had a hat trick as the Dauphin Clippers bounced Roblin/Grandview/Gilbert Plains 11-2. The Vikings and Clippers are tied for top spot with 44 points each. Rylan Dean scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period as Crocus Plains shaded Boissevain/Souris/Deloraine/Waskada 4-3. Gavin Wickham had a goal and two assists for the Broncos. Jaxon Mueller and Griffin Anderson scored two goals each as Glenboro/Carberry/Baldur downed Sandy Bay 9-2 and Tyler Huston had three goals and an assist in the Major Pratt Trojans 6-4 victory over Minnedosa/Erickson. 


Natalie Spooner and Emma Maltais each scored twice, Ann-Renee Desbiens made 24 saves and Canada downed the United States 6-1 in the decisive seventh game of the Rivalry Series in St. Paul. Marie-Philip Poulin and Deloraine's Ashton Bell also scored for Canada while Sarah Nurse added three assists. It's the second straight Rivalry Series in which the Americans won the first three games, only to see Canada storm back with four straight wins.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed American defensive end John Waggoner. The 24-year-old Des Moines, native played four seasons at Iowa (2019-22), recording 65 tackles (31 solo, 34 assists), 11.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and three pass breakups in 41 games. In his senior season, Waggoner made 34 tackles (16 solo, 18 assists), 6.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and one forced fumble in 13 games. He was a four-time Academic All-Big Ten.
