There were three games in the Southwest Baseball League Sunday. The Boissevain Centennials beat the Red Sox 7-0 in Hamiota and then lost 12-8 to Rivers. John Hutton had four hits and Scott Beever homered for the hometown Comets who won for the first time after starting the season with four straight losses. The Virden Oilers downed the Oak River Dodgers 13-3 and reached the midway point of their season with a 5-2 record. The Deloraine Royals are in first place at 6-1.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes gave up two runs in the first, second and fifth innings and lost 7-0 to the Lincoln Saltdogs at Shaw Park. The Fish wrapped up their six-game homestand with three wins and three losses. Winnipeg will begin a six-game road trip Tuesday in Texas when they meet the Cleburne Railroaders. 


Tyler Mislawchuk will bring home a silver medal from the World Cup sprint triathlon in Huatulco, Mexico. The 27-year-old Oak Bluff native and two-time Olympian finished one second behind Genis Grau of Spain. The triathlon featured a 750-metre swim, 20-kilometre bike ride and five-kilometer run. Mislawchuk finished 15th at the Tokyo Olympics. 


The Brandon Wheat Kings will play four preseason games before the start of the 2022-23 Western Hockey League season. The Wheat Kings will play two games each against the Winnipeg Ice and Moose Jaw Warriors. Brandon opens their preseason schedule Friday, September 9th at home against the Ice. The two teams then meet the following night in Winnipeg. The Wheat Kings then play in Moose Jaw on September 16th and host the Warriors on the 17th.
