Neelin boys have qualified for the Provincial AAA High School Varsity Basketball Championship later this month in Thompson. Neelin girls will meet Garden Valley of Winkler in a wildcard game. Virden qualified for the Provincial AA Girls Championship in Souris. Glenboro/Baldur boys qualified for the Provincial A Championship in Grandview and Glenboro/Baldur girls qualified for the Provincials in Gilbert Plains.


The Sandy Bay Badgers will meet the Major Pratt Trojans in the Westman High School Hockey League's consolation semifinals. Riley Kleinsasser had a hat trick as Sandy Bay defeated Boissevain/Souris 5-2 in the deciding third game of their quarterfinal series. Joshua Haubrick and Connor Braun also scored for the Badgers. Ty Tosh and Jake Maxwell replied for the Broncos. 


Nicholas Jones, Jansen Harkins and Cole Maier each had a goal and an assist as the Manitoba Moose defeated the Chicago Wolves 5-3. Oskari Salminen made 21 saves in net for the Moose.


Matt Dunstone has a 2-0 record and Reid Carruthers is 2-1 at the Brier in London, Ontario. Dunstone won his lone game Sunday 14-2 over Jake Higgs of Nunavut. Carruthers defeated Jamie Koe of Northwest Territories 11-7 and Nathan Young of Newfoundland & Labrador 7-6. Both Manitoba teams play just one game today. Carruthers will meet Kevin Koe of Alberta at 8 a.m. and Dunstone will take on Jamie Koe at 1 p.m.


Team Manitoba athletes are bringing home 19 medals including six gold, six silver and seven bronze from the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island. Team Toba archers Chyler Sanders of Winnipeg and Ryder Wilson of Selkirk were co-flag bearers for the closing ceremony Sunday night in Charlottetown.
