Grace Glover stopped 37 shots as the defending Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League champion Westman Wildcats beat the Winnipeg Avros 3-1. Hayley Kolosky, Sophia Anderson and Brooklyn Franklin did the goal scoring for the Wildcats who will play in the Brampton 2Nations Tournament this weekend. 


It was a busy Sunday as 14 teams were on the ice in the Westman High School Hockey League. Jory Kulbacki had a goal and four helpers as the Neepawa Tigers defeated Boissevain/Souris 7-3. Kai Bennett, Connor Graham and Jake Maxwell replied for the Broncos. Josh Archambault scored twice as the Killarney/Wawanesa Raiders downed the defending champion Major Pratt Trojans 7-4. Vincent Massey captain Porter Ewert had four goals and an assist in the Vikings 8-5 victory over Deloraine/Hartney. Thomas Swereda had a hat trick as Birtle/Shoal Lake/Rossburn downed Sandy Bay 8-2. Riley Hall scored the go-ahead goal 8:01 into the third period as the Virden Golden Bears edged Glenboro/Carberry/Baldur 7-6. Logan Chapman had a goal and two assists as Dauphin beat Crocus Plains 6-2 and RJ Dell scored the go-ahead goal 3:02 into the third period as Reston/Elkhorn/Melita/Pierson shaded Roblin/Grandview/Gilbert Plains 4-3.


Brayden Teetaert scored twice in the Hartney Blues 5-2 victory over the Souris Elks in the lone Tiger Hills Hockey League game Sunday night. Dakota Scheirlinck, Del Cowan and Jesse Linner also scored for the Blues. Johnny Williams and Cole Kirkup replied for the Elks. 


Pierre-Luc Dubois and Saku Maenalanen each scored twice as the Winnipeg Jets defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 7-2 at the United Centre. Kyle Connor, Jansen Harkins and Mark Scheifele also scored for the Jets. Josh Morrissey chipped in with three helpers. Winnipeg's Connor Hellebuyck made 23 saves. The Jets (13-6-1) begin a four-game homestand Tuesday night when they meet the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche. 


Canada will not advance to the knockout round at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Canada suffered its second straight loss dropping a 4-1 decision to Croatia and were eliminated. Andrej Kramaric found the back of the net twice for the Croatians who are ranked 12th in the world and were runner-up to France four years ago in Russia. Alphonso Davies scored Canada's first-ever World Cup goal in the second minute. Canada will play its final Group Stage match Thursday against Morocco.


Canada has won the Davis Cup for the first time. Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime recorded singles victories over Australia to clinch the title. Shapovalov defeated Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-2, 6-4, while Auger-Aliassime beat Alex de Minaur 6-3, 6-2. Canada had reached the final only once before falling to host Spain in Madrid in 2019.
