Kerri Einarson, Tracy Fleury, Jason Gunnlaugson and Mike McEwen have qualified for the quarterfinals at the Grand Slam of Curling’s Players Championship in Toronto. Einarson will meet Satsuki Fujisawa; Fleury will take on Isabella Wrana; Gunnlaugson will face Brendan Bottcher and McEwen will take on Bruce Mouat. 2022 Provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts champion Mackenzie Zacharias lost her “C” event qualifier 8-6 to Rachel Homan.


The Winnipeg Jets gave up two goals in each period and lost 6-1 to the Florida Panthers. Nikolaj Ehlers had the lone goal for the Jets who have seven games left and are eight points back of the Dallas Stars who hold down the second wild card spot in the NHL’s Western Conference. Winnipeg will face the Lighting in Tampa Bay tonight.


Andrew Ness made 39 saves and Blake Jones scored three times as the Winnipeg Wild defeated Brandon 5-1. That cuts the Wheat Kings lead in the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League’s best-of-five final to two games to one. Game four is set for Sunday at Bell MTS Iceplex.


The Brandon Wheat Kings will finish sixth in the Eastern Conference and face the Red Deer Rebels in the opening round of the Western Hockey League playoffs. Rylen Roersma scored Brandon’s lone goal in a 2-1 loss to the Saskatoon Blades. The Wheat Kings will play their regular season finale tonight against the Raiders in Prince Albert. The first place Winnipeg Ice scored five first period goals en route to a 6-1 victory over the Regina Pats. Two teams meet again tonight at the Brandt Centre.
