Canada will face Switzerland today (12 p.m.) at the 2022 World Women’s Hockey Championship in Herning, Denmark. Team Canada won its preliminary round opener 4-1 over Finland on Thursday.


Charles Fitzsimmons of London won the Canadian Men's Mid-Amateur Golf Championship for the second year in row. Fitzsimmons fired a final round even par 70 at The Thornhill Club in Thornhill, Ontario and finished at five-under par. Warren Sellors of Quebec was five shots back. Curtis Markusson of St. Charles, who captured the Mid-Master Division, was eight-over par 78 Friday and finished in a tie for 12th place at plus eight. Allan McDonald of Breezy Bend was 79 and plus 23. Adam Guenther of Elmhurst was 78 and plus 29.


Ron Bilawka and Todd Teplitski of Pine Ridge won Golf Manitoba’s inaugural Senior Men’s Four-Ball Championship at Oak Island. Bilawka and Teplitski combined to card a four-under par 68. Birdies on the 17th and 18th holes earned them the countback victory over Carl Lechman and David Powell of Elmhurst who were also minus four. Dwight Edwards and Dave McMillan of Shilo finished tied for eighth spot at plus one. Dwight Kearns and Steve Nicholls of Shilo and Jim Ferguson and Mark Shanks of Wheat City were plus two. Don Cullen and Paul Solon of Wheat City were plus five.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes game against the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks was rained out. The Fish and Redhawks will play a pair of seven inning games today at Newman Outdoor Field beginning at 5 p.m. The Goldeyes (49-41) are in third place in the American Association’s West Division. Winnipeg is 11 games back of the first place Redhawks and three-and-a-half games behind the second place Kansas City Monarchs.
