Canada lost 2-0 to host Sweden at the 2024 World Junior Hockey Championship Friday in Gothenburg. Hugo Havelid made 21 saves in net for the host country who lead Group A with a 3-0 record. Canada is 2-1 and will play its final preliminary round game Sunday against Germany.


Caleb Hadland potted the only goal of the shootout to lift the Brandon Wheat Kings past the Saskatoon Blades 3-2 at Westoba Place. Jayden Wiens and Luke Shipley scored in regulation for the Wheat Kings who wrapped up their eight-game homestand with seven wins and one loss.


The Manitoba Moose lost 6-2 to the Texas Stars at Canada Life Centre. Jeff Malott and Ashton Sautner did the goal scoring for the Moose. Fredrik Karlstrom had a hat trick for the Stars.


Canada will face HC Dynamo Pardubice in the semifinals of the Spengler Cup hockey tournament Saturday in Davos, Switzerland. Chris DiDomenico had two goals and an assist as Canada defeated KalPa Kuopio 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
